Roberttson

Roberto Vitar describes himself as “retired lawyer, streamer by trade, and teacher by vocation” on the platform Twitch, where he streams and has more than 100,000 followers. “Roberttson” is the artistic name used by the former lawyer on social media. His content revolves around Chilean politics and national current affairs, to the point that some years ago he interviewed Gabriel Boric, who later became president of Chile in 2022.

At 35, Vitar is also known online as “El Profe,” since he works as a teacher. His highest viewership spikes occurred in 2021, when he interviewed several presidential candidates. The session with Boric, who took office in March 2022, reached 64,000 views. With a distinctive and varied approach, Roberttson has become a consolidated streaming figure on Twitch.

How did he shift from law to streaming?

In a difficult political context in Chile, Vitar realized that many people “were misinformed.” Facing the public’s difficulty in understanding and accessing information, the former lawyer decided to take on the task of explaining current events and political developments. He began using Instagram before fully transitioning into Twitch.

“From the pandemic onward, I took it as my own,” he said, noting that he began streaming officially on Twitch in 2017 and settled into the platform in 2020. In an interview, he shared that “his dream had been to become a YouTuber,” but over time he understood that streaming was the best format for someone who did not edit video.

“With time I realized that streaming has its complexity, but for someone who didn’t edit, it was the best option,” Vitar explained. Eventually, Roberttson became a public Twitch figure, embracing the responsibility that daily broadcasts demand.

Streaming and education: two connected fields for Roberttson

Streaming has allowed Vitar to finance his studies. And within those studies, he found a way to inform and analyze politics live. He notes that he “invests a lot of time in reading and researching,” both for personal development and for enriching his streams.

Through his income from streaming, Vitar has completed two postgraduate diplomas, one in Human Rights and another in Judicial Studies. Due to his knowledge and the way he addresses topics on stream, his audience calls him “El Profe,” an “honorary” title that reflects his teaching vocation and his dynamic relationship with viewers.

“When someone watches you and feels they learned something, they call you ‘profe,’ and that’s a beautiful thing,” he says. Vitar discusses complex issues, current events, and politics, teaching through the information he brings to each broadcast. His audience values this approach, which brings him genuine satisfaction.

Roberttson emerged in an unusual moment for political discourse. In an interview, he said he was the “first streamer to reach 1,000 viewers discussing politics,” and he believes he encouraged other creators to explore different types of content on digital platforms.

A voice in a shifting digital space

The “former lawyer turned political streamer,” as some describe him, has drawn attention for his growing presence in the digital world. “The digital battleground is varied and allows for many things, but TV channels or traditional media need to change their language if they want to enter Twitch,” he emphasized, highlighting “feedback” as one of streaming’s greatest strengths.

Otro Planeta

Roberttson also dedicates time to environmental awareness. Together with Celeste Giardinelli, he launched Otro Planeta, a Twitch program aimed at raising awareness about environmental issues amid the effects of climate change.

Additionally, a new collaboration with Greenpeace brought Vitar and Giardinelli together in a documentary series titled Animales en peligro de extinción, which explores the difficulties faced by species across Latin America. A group of influencers—including Vitar and Giardinelli—travel to threatened ecosystems to identify real problems affecting wildlife. Vitar was selected by Greenpeace due to his commitment to environmental issues and sustainability.

Beyond political and current-affairs commentary, he also highlights the importance of environmental protection. Roberttson has become a public figure in streaming, moving from political analysis to his participation in Animales en peligro de extinción, a series broadcast on Flow and hosted by Natalia Oreiro.
