Ramiro González is an Argentine federal prosecutor with a prominent role in the federal courts of Comodoro Py, located in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. He was born in Bahía Blanca 61 years ago and has an extensive career within Argentina’s judicial structure.
His trajectory is closely linked to his position at Federal Prosecutor’s Office No. 7, Federal Criminal and Correctional Court No. 1, and the Environmental Investigation Unit, known as UFIMA.
Among his most important actions are his interventions in cases related to complex criminal proceedings, drug trafficking networks, human trafficking, financial crimes and cases linked to administrative corruption.
González: personal life and academic background
González began his academic and professional path when he moved to the City of Buenos Aires to pursue his legal training. There, he entered the Faculty of Law at the University of Buenos Aires, where he graduated as a lawyer and laid the foundations for his legal education in criminal and constitutional matters.
His career in the judiciary began when he was appointed as a court trainee. This first experience allowed him to acquire knowledge of the judicial sphere and advance until he was appointed administrative prosecretary within a period of three years.
Within the Electoral Secretariat of the Federal Capital, he first served in that area and was later appointed electoral secretary.
González and his rise in the justice system
In 2004, González became the federal prosecutor of Dolores, and in 2012 he finally arrived at the federal courts of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, where he assumed leadership of Federal Prosecutor’s Office No. 7.
That prosecutor’s office depends on Argentina’s National Public Prosecutor’s Office and is responsible for promoting criminal action and directing investigations into complex federal crimes, such as those related to corruption, drug trafficking and money laundering.
The lawyer is also part of the National Electoral Prosecutor’s Office and heads the Environmental Investigation Unit, UFIMA.
UFIMA is an investigative prosecutorial unit dedicated to the environment and industrial pollution, as well as to the resolution of crimes linked to the protection of public health in relation to the environment. Although it is based in Buenos Aires, its intervention and scope are national.
González: his intervention in political cases
Throughout his professional career, González has stood out for intervening in cases of major public impact and paradigmatic relevance. During his career, the prosecutor has led criminal investigations against former officials from different political parties, including Kirchnerism and Macrism, which has led some journalists to describe him as a “tightrope walker.”
Among the best-known cases in which he has participated are the “Olivos celebration” case and the indictment of Alberto Fernández for gender-based violence.
The event that occurred in 2020, during the Social, Preventive and Mandatory Isolation period decreed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, is widely known. At that time, photographs were leaked of a birthday celebration for Fabiola Yáñez, then first lady, at the Olivos Presidential Residence, with the participation of former president Alberto Fernández.
The criminal case for violation of presidential health measures fell under Ramiro González’s prosecutor’s office.
The prosecutor’s request for evidence included information to determine whether the guests had circulation permits, which were processed through the Cuidar app at a time when social gatherings were prohibited.
The case was closed after an economic reparation agreement was reached.
In 2024, González again drew public attention after the criminal complaint filed by Fabiola Yáñez against Alberto Fernández for gender-based violence was assigned to his prosecutor’s office.
The prosecutor led the investigation, gathered evidence such as testimony and records from electronic devices, and formalized the charges. Fernández was ultimately accused of minor and serious injuries and coercive threats in a context of gender-based violence.
González also intervened in investigations aimed at the core of power within Juntos por el Cambio, with particular attention to his role in advancing the case against Mauricio Macri for alleged illicit enrichment and malicious omission. The prosecutor indicted the former president for the alleged concealment of part of his assets.
