Uruguayan to the core but long settled —and deeply attached— to Argentina, Natalia Oreiro is an actress, singer, model, host, and fashion designer who has lived in Buenos Aires since she was 17. She moved from Montevideo in search of new opportunities during her adolescence, and from there went on to work in film, television, and the music industry.
Oreiro has built a multifaceted career in front of the camera. La mujer de la fila is one of her most recent releases, a film launched in September 2025 and led by the Uruguayan actress. In the same year, she filmed more than three productions, including one adapted for the streaming world.
She also has new projects ahead, including work with Adrián Suar, a renowned Argentine actor and producer. In a more reflective stage, Oreiro acknowledges stepping away from music due to her growing focus on cinema and her interest in portraying “deeper characters with different conflicts.”
Her career crossed borders and reached Russia, where she is considered a “star.” Some years ago, the actress and her son obtained Russian citizenship through a formal ceremony. Oreiro is widely admired by Russian audiences thanks to her hit series Muñeca Brava and a nearly 50-day tour across the country.
Russia and Natalia Oreiro, a different kind of bond
“It is my second home,” she has said about the European country. Oreiro’s connection with Russia —and Russia’s affection for her— stems from the success of Muñeca Brava, but also from her “Russian look,” which has often made her blend in naturally. She has even posted in both Spanish and Russian on social media.
Her first trip to Russia was in 2001. She returned years later for concerts and a full musical tour. In between, she filmed an exclusive miniseries for the Russian market. These experiences strengthened her bond with the country. She also recorded a documentary about her interest in Russian culture and language. With citizenship, Oreiro can travel freely, always welcomed as a “global star.”
Natalia Oreiro’s music
In 2024, Oreiro officially returned to music. Her last live performance had been in 2019, and a few months ago she performed Si no es con vos alongside Alejandro Sergi, musician and composer from the band Miranda!, for a streaming series in which she starred.
Her music, well-known in Latin America, also crossed borders. Beyond her tours in Russia and her cultural connection there, she recorded an exclusive song in Russian for the 2018 FIFA World Cup hosted in the country.
Cambio dolor and Me muero de amor, boosted by Muñeca Brava, are among her most recognized singles. Natalia Oreiro (1997), Tu veneno (1999), and Turmalina (2002) were the three albums she released during her strongest musical period. Later, in 2016, she portrayed singer Gilda in the biographical film and recorded the soundtrack.
Endangered animals: Natalia Oreiro as host
Oreiro has been involved with Greenpeace for more than fifteen years. As a member of the organization, she has often stressed that her role as an artist allows her to “influence social awareness” and draw attention to urgent environmental issues.
Her first participation with Greenpeace was in 2004, starring in a campaign highlighting climate concerns. Now, with a solid professional career, she returns to the screen with the organization through a docuseries called Animals in Danger of Extinction.
Oreiro serves as the main host, narrating the journey of a group of influencers traveling across the Americas to expose the critical situation of endangered species. The six-episode series examines the threats faced by wildlife under climate pressures.
Once again, Oreiro appears on screen for a humanitarian and environmental cause. She has long been a UNICEF ambassador and consistently supports communities in need. With the docuseries now available On Demand on Flow, she brings visibility to the urgent challenge facing endangered species.
