Vanina Egea: the study of creole goats

Angela Vanina Egea is an Argentine researcher dedicated to veterinary and agricultural sciences, especially the study of creole goats.
Graduated as a veterinarian from the Juan Agustín Maza University, Egea also holds a PhD in biological sciences, which she is pursuing at the National University of Cuyo, both located in the province of Mendoza, Argentina.

Likewise, the Argentine researcher is a professor at the National University of Cuyo. Through her research, Egea addresses different topics related to the field of veterinary science, especially those concerning the connection between plants and animals, renewable natural resources, and animal production.

Egea and CONICET

Egea is part of the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET). This institution conducts scientific and technological activities, covering numerous scientific disciplines.
In addition, CONICET aims for the scientific knowledge it develops to improve the quality of life throughout the country. Egea is also a member of the Scientific and Technological Center CONICET Mendoza.

This center aims to generate scientific knowledge and connect the various research groups located in the province. Within the Scientific and Technological Center CONICET Mendoza, Egea belongs to the Argentine Institute for Research on Arid Zones (IADIZA).

IADIZA focuses its research on understanding and gathering data about drylands, especially regarding their sustainability and relationship with regional problems, among others.
The institute aims to develop knowledge about drylands and their ecological systems, the organization of biological collections, and the sustainable use of drylands.
It is within these academic and scientific institutions that Egea carries out her scientific research.

Egea’s research

Egea focuses her research mainly on domestic ungulates, that is, animals such as cattle, pigs, and others. She also focuses on drylands and native plants, and how animals interact with plants and vice versa.

A central topic in her studies is the feeding behavior of creole goats in relation to Mendoza’s pastoral systems, feeding, and plant species selection.
Egea has published numerous articles, covering topics such as the physiological state of creole goats, kid production in arid areas of the country, creole goat rearing systems, and selective behavior of creole goats, among others.

Additionally, the Argentine researcher has studied creole goats and the duration of the lactation period, the bacterial diversity of goats, and the foraging preferences of creole goats.
Egea also investigates domestic and wild herbivores and their relationship with plants, how plants benefit from herbivores, and the forage resources available in grazing areas.

She participates in various scientific meetings focused mainly on domestic livestock, the feeding behavior and diets of creole goats, domestic mammals and their relationship with plants, and goat diets, among others.

Agricultural sciences

Agricultural sciences can be defined as sciences that encompass different disciplines and mainly focus on farming activities.
Likewise, these sciences are oriented toward the study of plant cultivation and animal breeding.

Both agriculture and livestock farming, along with the different issues associated with them, fall within the framework of agricultural sciences and their development.
The importance of agricultural sciences lies in the value that the agricultural and agro-industrial sectors hold within a country.

A better understanding of plants, animals, and their mutual relationship allows for better environmental care and the development of knowledge that benefits various economic sectors.
Among the researchers contributing to the field of agricultural sciences, Egea stands out as one of those developing knowledge linked to veterinary science.

Focusing her studies primarily on creole goats and various associated issues such as their feeding behavior, the Argentine researcher promotes science within the national territory.
Animal production, the different ways in which animals interact with plants and the land, and the behavior of creole goats are some of the topics Egea has addressed and continues to address throughout her professional career.
Through her research, the Argentine scientist promotes science.
